Is a research group at the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (FCR-STEM) within the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at The Florida State University.
The SMART Spot is focused on the research and development of learning/performance support systems and resources for educators and students.
Currently, the SMART Spot is working on the following projects: CPALMS, iCPALMS, QuickConnect Apps, and the Smart Spot Mapping Tool. Please use the navigation menu on top to learn more about each of these projects.
CPALMS is a free and public website that offers information on the state's education standards, courses, and standards-based resources. CPALMS also provide standards-based resource authoring tools that educators or anyone can use to create standards-based resources for Florida's and the Common Core standards in mathematics and science. This includes an electronic peer and expert review process for all resources created and shared. CPALMS and iCPALMS are practically the same system and funded by FCR-STEM and NSF. CPALMS is the public website (no login) while iCPALMS requires an account. CPALMS/iCPALMS' website will launch in Fall 2011. In the meantime, newly developed tools and features are temporarily available on FloridaStandards.org, a predecessor project that FCR-STEM built through funding by the FL Dept of Education and project PROMiSE. iCPALMS will be a teacher portal for standards-based instruction. It is also a National STEM Digital Library Pathway into content, services, professional development, research, and dissemination that will result in a scalable, sustainable infrastructure to support individual and collaborative standards-driven instructional planning.
The QuickConnect Apps include the following:
QuickConnect Desktop App
An application that can be installed on commonly used operating systems to allow the user to access Florida's Next Generation Sunshine State Standards from the convenience of their desktop. Learn more & Download
QuickConnect iPhone & iPad Apps - Coming Soon Coming soon, iPhone and iPad Apps that connect to CPALMS/iCPALMS and retrieve the latest information on the standards including: benchmark information, related courses, FCAT specifications, sample test
items, related access points, and related
resources that have been
authored or
recommended by CPALMS/iCPALMS users
and
approved by peers and subject
matter
experts.
The Smart Spot Mapping Tool is a unique concept mapping software designed for preK-12 educators. Unlike other applications, The Smart Spot Mapping Tool is a web-based software application that enables the user to create enriched concept maps.
Users will be able to create and share maps with other colleagues. A smart, interactive intreface offers the viewer easy tools with which to navigate the map, including a show/hide based on the different elements on the screen.
Map scenario: a user creates a benchmark progression map using Florida's education standards. The map will automatically bring in all the following related information: courses, resources, access points, FCAT specifications, and sample test items. Better yet, this information will always be synchronized to provide the latest and additional information as it becomes available.
